The Secret of Contentment

Hello my dear ones,

Are you longing to know the secret to contentment? Contentment doesn't come from doing, going, or having. It comes from the little things in life.

I was thinking this morning about care-taking. When I was a teen, my mother said to me, "Kelly, take care of yourself because no one else will."

As I ponder that, it is such valuable insight. Being a victim/former victim we have a tendency to take care of everyone but ourselves. We never get around to "me" things. Sometimes we just don't have time for doing those little things for our self. Why? Why would we think so little about our self, but we will care for everyone else?

Is it the joy we receive when others are blessed? Well, yes. Is it the applaud we receive when others are thankful? Yes, again. When we are applauded and thanked for doing something we get instant gratification, but when we do stuff for our self there is no cheerleaders rooting us on, no friend patting us on the back, no "thanks for doing that for me."

But we need to realize that we deserve and should do things for our self every day - big and little.

Sometimes we just need to do something special for our self -- just because -- like buying ourselves flowers or going to the movies with a friend. And sometimes we need to make a choice to floss our teeth because our teeth will thank us decades later.

What if, just today, you did something that will put a smile on your face? What if you decided to do something that will give you instant gratification today and something that will help you 20 years from now.

Spend some time thinking about what you can do for yourself today. Maybe it's light some candles to make your home feel warm and welcoming, or lather your face with a good face cream so you will have younger looking skin in years to come.

Today is about you...

Do something extra special for yourself today. Sound good?
May you enjoy the secret of contentment, Kelly
